En bosque del Fundo Laguna Verde
Proyecto Explora UPLA concluyó trabajo científico en terreno
Entre el 26 de agosto y el 15 de septiembre el Proyecto Explora UPLA “Efectos de los incendios forestales en nuestra flora y fauna” efectuó la etapa de trabajo en terreno. Durante ese tiempo, los estudiantes de los Liceos Javiera Carrera, Poeta Daniel de La Vega y Camilo Henríquez de Quilpué, y Eduardo de La Barra de Valparaíso, visitaron el Fundo Laguna Verde de nuestra Casa de Estudios.
Acompañados por profesores de la Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Exactas de la UPLA, los niños y niñas que participan del proyecto – en grupos de enseñanza básica y media – observaron y experimentaron in situ para comparar la realidad de la flora y fauna de una superficie de bosque recientemente quemado y de otro no afectado por incendios forestales.
Los estudiantes respondieron diversas preguntas. Una de ellas se refería a los efectos de los incendios forestales sobre la cantidad y diversidad de flora – árboles, arbustos y hierbas - en áreas que han sufrido sucesivamente incendios, comparándolas de acuerdo al año de quema. Otra apuntaba a establecer diferencias entre el número de individuos, especies y la diversidad de insectos de suelo, según el momento de la quema, comparando los seres vivos entre superficies quemadas y no quemadas.
Entre las diversas actividades, los estudiantes en terreno experimentaron con trampas barber para medir la cantidad de insectos que habitan la superficie dañada y no dañada, midieron el PH del suelo y recolectaron ramas de las diversas especies encontradas determinando cobertura y densidad de la flora, en bosque afectado y no afectado por incendios forestales.
Para el proyecto es importante entender las causas y efectos que producen estas perturbaciones en los ecosistemas porque provocan destrucción y muchas veces extinción de la biodiversidad, determinando cambios en el tipo y número de organismos que habitan en ellos. Los resultados y experiencia de la investigación de Proyecto Explora UPLA serán presentados en el 8vo. Congreso Regional Escolar de Ciencia y Tecnología (7 y 8 de noviembre).-
